1,000 Things to Do on a 1,000 Mile Car Trip

My family and I just got back from a two-week vacation to Delray Beach, Florida! We had so much fun there, this is going to be the first of several posts about our time there.
It's a 1,000 miles from here to Delray, and as many of you know, we drive it in two days. So what do Esther and I do for a thousand miles in the backseat?
     Read on to find out.

Before the trip. This is all of my luggage, minus a couple of bags. I pack light.
Finally leaving! My mom thought it looked like there was a lot of room in the backseat. And actually, there was a lot of space -but that was before Esther and I got back there. Digging around for notebooks, pens, and tangled balls of yarn tends to make a small pile of stuff expand into a rather large car monster that falls out when you open the doors.
1. First of all, no long car ride should begin without first kicking off your shoes.
And a few liters of water.
2.-200. Sew up your car organizer so it's hanging on by 200 threads instead of two...
Pens, notebooks, a Winnie the Pooh clock, and a couple of old apples for the road
201-400. Watch your sister eat a few hundred peanuts.
This clipboard kept sliding over and smacking me in the arm. Every time we turned slightly, it hit me, and every time we didn't turn slightly, it hit me then too.
401. Doodle some doodles.

402. Eat all around the squishy part of an old apple.

403-600. Take a few photos of your sister in the backseat.

I think my sister enjoys those glasses entirely too much...
601-715. Watch Georgia roll by out your window. Except it's really flat, so I guess it didn't roll by after all.

716. Put on your Cool Dude hat and sunglasses when the afternoon sun starts shining in your face.

717-797. Day Two: Look at the strange bridges up ahead.

798-805. Drive. (If you have a learner's permit, that is!) This has the added benefit of keeping every single one of your passengers wide awake.

806-900. Stop at the Florida Welcome Center! (and have some free grapefruit juice)

901-998. Photograph musical dolphins at the Florida Welcome Center.

999. Dream about swimming.

1,000. ARRIVE IN FLORIDA! :)
The hotel's pool looked very cool at night.

I hope you've enjoyed this short post on a long car ride! Keep an eye out for more posts about the rest of our vacation to Florida!
